 What is a hostel?

A hostel provides budget and sociable accommodation where you can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a shared dormitory (they can be mixed in some hostels).

You will also share bathroom, TV room/kitchen.

 Are the rooms shared and mixed?

The Dover Castle Hostel offers shared mixed dorms. The toilets, the showers and kitchen facilities are also shared. Our dormitory style rooms are ranging in size offering 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 beds dorms. For group bookings we can sometimes offer separate male and female dorms.

 Do you have single/double/twin rooms?

We do not offer any single, double or twin rooms at the Dover Castle. However, we do have private rooms for long term guests in our zone 2 house and flatshares. For more information, go on our "Flatshares" page or email us directly at stay at dovercastlehostel dot com

 How do I get there?

The Dover Castle Hostel and Bar is located in Central London in Borough. This is in Zone 1 close to London Bridge and the South Bank of the River Thames, 1 minute walk from Borough Tube Station (Northern Line) and 5 minutes from London Bridge. For more information, go on our "Find us" page.

 What time can I check in?

The check-in time is from 2:00 pm, but if you come earlier you can always leave your luggage in our luggage storage for free, so you can start discovering London as soon as you get here! Our reception is open 24 hours, so you can check in during the whole night!

 What do I need to check in?

We require a valid national photo ID, such as passport, driver's licence or ID card. Expired ones or without a clear or damaged photo are not valid to check in. You also need to leave a security deposit for the room key, which can be one of these national ID's or £20, which you get back at your check-out. Credit cards, student/medical ID's, photocopies of ID/passport or expired ones are not accepted as a room key deposit.

 When do I need to pay?

You need to pay your remaining balance upon arrival when you check in, as you have only paid a deposit online to secure your booking with us.

 How can I pay at the reception?

You can pay in cash or with credit/debit cards such as Visa or MasterCard. Please note that we do not accept American Express. We do accept Sterling Travellers cheques, but no personal cheques.

 Can I pay in euros, dollars?

You cannot pay in euros or dollars; however you can change euros at the reception and then pay in pounds.

 What time do I have to check out?

You can check-out at any time before 11:00am. Late check-outs may incur a charge of an additional night. You can leave your luggage in our luggage room after you have checked out for free and pick it up later at any time, as we are open 24 hours.

 What can I do if I want to extend my stay?

If you want to extend your stay, you have to come to the reception before 11:00 am (check out time) and pay for your new night(s). We will try to book you in the same bed in order to make your stay easier.

 Does Dover Castle have weekly rates?

Yes, we do offer discounted weekly rates for long term guests. You can book a cheap weekly rate here. Weekly stays also include breakfast and taxes.

 Do you have a minimum age restriction?

Minors under 18 years are allowed to stay in our hostel. However they must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them. The adult does not need to be their parent or guardian.

 Can I book a stay for a group?

 Is breakfast included?

We offer a free continental breakfast (toast, cereals, fruit juice, milk, tea and coffee), which is served from 8:00am until 9:30am in our pub every morning.

 Is there a curfew?

There is no curfew. You are able to enter and leave at any time.

 What security do you have?

There are two code entrance doors to the hostel rooms. The dorm rooms have locks. We ask guests to ensure they leave rooms locked at any time. Our reception is open 24 hours with one of our staff members to ensure that only guests or people with reservations are allowed to entry and to help with any problems that may arise. CCTV cameras cover the hostel bar and internal common areas. Security lockers are available for hire.

 Do you provide secure lockers?

You can hire a locker at the reception from £1 per day with a £5 security deposit for the locker key, which you get back when you return it. Cheap weekly locker hire also available.

 Where can I leave my luggage?

You can leave your luggage in our free luggage store in the reception which is open 24 hours, so you can pick it up any time. You can also hire security lockers.

 Is the bed linen provided?

We provide free bed linen and beds are made before your arrival.

 Does Dover Castle have Internet access?

We provide free WIFI internet access. You can also use our computers for £1.00/half an hour. Printing of small documents, such as tickets, is also possible.

 Do you have cooking facilities?

You will find our common room with a TV and a furnished kitchen (oven, stove, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and freezer, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans…) where you can cook, relax and enjoy the free WIFI.

 Can I wash my clothes there?

You can come to the reception any time and ask the receptionist to do your laundry. We wash and dry a bag of clothes for £6.00.

 Do you have any smoking areas?

We do not have any smoking room or area inside the hostel, as it is prohibited to smoke inside public buildings within UK. You can smoke outside the hostel in our defined smoking area.

 What is your cancellation policy?

If you want to cancel your booking, we require a minimum of 48 hours notice. If less than 48 hours notice has been given either via email or telephone, there will be no refund on the deposit that has already been paid to secure your booking with us. You will be charged for the first full night as a no-show.

 Do you provide transport to the hostel?

We don't provide transport to or from the hostel, but it's very easy to get there, as we are in front of Borough Station (Northern Line) and 5 min by walking from London Bridge (Northern Line & train station).

 Do you have parking facilities?

We don't have parking facilities, but we can suggest you several car parks around the hostel.

 How can I contact a guest at the hostel?

We don't have any phones in the rooms, but you can always call or email us to leave a message for a guest.

 Can I bring friends/family into the hostel?

If you wish to meet someone they will have to come to the reception first to identify themselves with a valid ID (ID card/passport/driving licence).

You are welcome to meet friends in our bar.
